Awesome Avocados

As the title of this post clearly attests to, my latest food obsession is avocados. Partially because they're delicious and go well with pretty much everything, and partially because they photograph really well (just kidding). Earlier, I had someone comment asking me how to make an avocado rose, while it looks fairly complex, the technique is actually very simple and not only does it look pretty, it makes getting the perfect portion of toast, egg, and avocado in every bite a cinch! 1. Cut avocado in half and peel off the skin. Lay one-half of the avocado, cut side down and slice the avocado thinly. 2. Fan out avocado slices so that they form a long line with the slices overlapping each other and gently roll into a circle. TIP: Don’t use an avocado that’s too ripe: Ripe and soft avocados are great for guacamole but not these roses. The avocado just doesn’t slice as cleanly when it’s too ripe, and you’ll end up with a mushy mess when you try to curl the avocado slices into a rose. Be sure to pick a ripe avocado that’s still firm.
